ted.hering 04 Sep : 21:29 Hi, numan, Here's a like that provides a good list of Spike's CDs: [link].
I can't spot either of the songs you want. Funny the 1940s stuff has been issued over and over, but there are a lot of gaps in Spike's 1950s records.
numan428 23 Aug : 19:30 does anyone know which cd's (available in the uk) have spike jones's songs "molasses molasses" and "mommy wont you buy a baby brother" on please ?
chuber 13 Aug : 22:59 have you hear Spikes 'Hocha Cornea' on the cadbury fish ad? its AMAZING!
ted.hering 12 Aug : 06:22 Hi, Zany, Spike recorded a box set of six Charlestons on 45s. And his versions of the classical tunes "Liebestraum," "Rhapsody from Hunger(y)," and "Morpheus" were mostly instrumental, with brief spoken bridges. If it was a 78, it might have been "Holiday for Strings." Another instrumental Spike recorded (on 78) was Hotcha Cornia (the old Russian song "Dark Eyes"),
zany 02 Aug : 06:18 does anyone know of a 45 RPM record that came out in the late 1960's of Spike Jones instrumental music ? I don't know the name of the song but it was hilariously funny with just instruments playing. No vocals were used at all.
Doowopdaddy 14 Jul : 17:33 No, Claire Brandt looks completely different. She isn´t Kay Cee Jones. Can´t it be that Kathleen Dana Jones (daughter of Bernie Jones) was the alias of Kay Cee Jones? No idea?
ted.hering 01 Jul : 05:24 Hi, Doowopdaddy, wasn't Kay Cee married to songwriter Eddie Brandt? (Definitely not Spike of Freddy.)
ted.hering 01 Jul : 05:21 Hi, Dic2phone, "Mama Look at Boo Boo" was a hit for Harry Belefante.
Doowopdaddy 23 Jun : 15:43 Hello. Does anybody knows the relationship between singer KAY CEE JONES and her songwriters Freddy Morgan and Eddie Brandt and Bernie or Spike Jones? Is/was she a relative with hits like "Japanese farewell Song"?

Hi there! I love all the songs I've heard on The Spike Jones Story documentary shown on the Brazilian TV a coule of decades back and I own "Radio Days" but I've looked all over for the COMPLETE lyrics of Spike Jones and all I've found were just a couple of them. Can anyone one help me out with this one? Thanks.

I have a Musicraft 78 by "Sherman Stewport and his Stimulated Six" and it sure sounds like Spike's sidemen. Can anybody out there give me any details
ted.hering on Saturday 08 December 2007 - 02:37:12
H i, DCM, look for a box set of DVDs titled "Spike Jones the Legend." You'll find 4 hours of Spike the City Slickers from their early TV shows.

Can someone please tell me about the availability of DVDs of the band?

Thanks, Ted - this is exactly what I wanted though I didn't know the name of the instrument.

The "Sadivarious" was played by Sir Frederic Gas (real name: Earl Bennett). The sound was actually from a leather reed he had in his mouth.
The "Ink Spots" parody was done a couple times on television. The third member of the trio was Dick Morgan in 1952, and Bernie Jones (Ole Svenson) in 1954.

Which of the City Slickers played a piece of wood like a violin in the "Poet and Peasant Overture" in "Fireman Save My Child"? He had a mass of black hair, sang "Chloe" and was one of the trio in a skit of "The Inkspots". Freddy Morgan was the second - who was the third singer? Thanks in advance.
Randy Skretvedt on Thursday 04 October 2007 - 08:25:27
Regards "Chloe," it seems as though Spike's version is based on the Paul Whiteman record of it, made on February 27, 1928. If I remember correctly, I think Red Ingle's vocal is also kind of a parody of Austin Young's on the Whiteman record.

You want either "The Jones Laughing Record" (the 1946 original), or "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" from the album "Dinner Music for People who Aren't Very Hungry." (The Dinner Music version is a Hi-Fi remake without the laughing. "Dinner Music" has been issued on CD, but is now out of print. You still find it occasionally on eBay.) "The Laughing Record" appears on several CD compilations, including "Spike Jones is Murdering the Classics."

From where can I obtain a cd containing a track of 'Flight of the Bumblebee'?
ted.hering on Saturday 15 September 2007 - 21:02:03
Max: Yes, that is interesting. Of course Spike toured Australia in 1955 and even appeared as a contestant on the Jack Davey radio show. Spike's record 'What Is A Disc Jockey' was issued in Australia, but not in the USA. (Was 'Are My Ears On Straight' released in Australia? It did come out in NZ.

You may be interested in the fact that as a disc jockey in Sydney in the 60's that I met and spoke often to Spike Jones on my radio show and he sent me a Christmas card every year until his death.

I've always liked "Chloe" by Fats Waller, but it's a pipe organ instrumental. No singing.
Grandpappy on Friday 14 September 2007 - 18:56:17
Wonderful! Thanks very much. I would not have thought of Satchmo as one of the possibilities. Would you like The Hawaiian War Chant by Felix Mendelssohn and his Hawaiian Serenaders?
Roy on Friday 14 September 2007 - 16:49:09
I have just uploaded the version of Chloe by Louis Armstrong... I hope this is what you're looking for.
Grandpappy on Thursday 13 September 2007 - 22:34:48
What I am looking for is an orthodox, non humorous , dramatic version of the song "Chloe" that Spike so ably takes the p*** out of, sung by an orthodox, non humorous etc. singer for the purpose of comparison. Maybe I should have asked for a "straight faced" version or, being British, a "stiff upper lipped" version!
Roy on Thursday 13 September 2007 - 10:21:52
@ Grandpappy: What exactly do you mean by "straight" version?
Grandpappy on Monday 10 September 2007 - 18:15:09
Can anybody point me to a "straight" version of 'Chloe'? Please?
The CD from England, "The Bluebirds," on the Harlequin label, features this track. It is fairly easy to find in the USA.
The track may appear on some other compilations, too, but that's the first one that comes to mind.

Ish Kabibble (real name Merwin Bogue) was a member of the Kay Kaiser band... the one who combed his hair into Beatle-style bangs.
robertbijak on Sunday 29 July 2007 - 20:26:27
does anyone know what ishkabibil means or any info on the word or correct spelling if this is incorrect. Wasn't he a member of the band? Where does the name derive form?

Ken might be refering to the Spike Jones Show compilations on the Comedy Central channel, circa 1990. Highpoints of these shows were issued by Paramount in 4 one-hour volumes on VHS tape.

I have a 3-record boxed set dated 1977, M.F. Distribution Co. that includes Nature Boy. I wish I could find it in mp3 or CD format, because I no longer have a turntable. It's my favorite of his recordings, I think.
